Reasons to Choose Eloxatin-Based Chemotherapy...

For Stage III Colon Cancer:

Eloxatin, combined with infusional (given through bloodstream) administration of 2 other chemotherapy drugs, 5-fluorouracil/leucovorin (5-FU/LV), is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of people with stage III colon cancer who have had their primary (original) tumors surgically removed. This approval was based on evidence of an improvement in disease-free survival after 4 years.

In clinical studies, of people with stage III colon cancer who had their primary tumors surgically removed, Eloxatin plus 5-FU/LV has been shown to:

  • Significantly increase disease-free survival when the recommended dose of 12 cycles of therapy is completed
  • Reduce the risk of colon cancer coming back

For Advanced Colorectal Cancer (Also Known as Stage IV or Metastatic Cancer):

Eloxatin, combined with the chemotherapy regimen of 5-FU/LV, is approved by the FDA for the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon and/or rectum).

Eloxatin plus 5-FU/LV showed the following benefits in clinical trials of patients with advanced colorectal cancer:

  • Significantly prolonged survival
  • Significantly shrank tumors
  • Significantly delayed cancer progression

Safety of Eloxatin

Eloxatin has been proven as safe and effective in patients over age 65 as it is in younger patients. The incidence of diarrhea, dehydration, hypokalemia, leukopenia, fatigue and syncope were higher in patients over age 65.

Clinical Safety Considerations

ELOXATIN should be administered under the supervision of a physician experienced in the use of cancer chemotherapeutic agents. Appropriate management of therapy and complications is possible only when adequate diagnostic and treatment facilities are readily available.

Anaphylactic-like reactions to ELOXATIN have been reported and may occur within minutes of ELOXATIN administration. Epinephrine, corticosteroids, and antihistamines have been employed to alleviate symptoms, and discontinuation of ELOXATIN therapy may be required.
